Capes by Julahas
‘Julahas’ is deep rooted in the ideas of empowerment and sustainability through a design first approach. Our journey with Julahas is a comprehensive understanding of the materials at hand, carefully crafted colour palettes, textures and patterns to create textiles that truly resonates with their playful and experimental style as envisioned by founder – Kanak Hirani. The brief while designing ‘Cape equal’ was to design an off beat handcrafted fabric in a playful mix of colours woven with indigenous materials.

To figure out the right weight for capes we came up with various textile weights ranging from two by two plain weaves, twills, extra weft variations and rib like structures which would drape well. After working on various colour combinations in stripes, checks and solids to add drama to the base - a diffused colour warp was paired with chunky weft panels in four colours to bring out an exciting mix.

The true character of the cape equal fabric which resembles a rib-weave structure- lies in the near perfect composition of warp colours complemented by a thick weft that subtly blends all the panels together.
